Welcome to Belton Texas, the county seat for Bell County. Founded in 1851 on the banks of the Leon River, Belton has a current population of 21,734. Located 60 miles North of Austin and 43 miles South of Waco on the I 35 Corridor, Belton offers a unique blend of city and country life for its residents. Downtown Belton is a classic Texas central business district offering unique shopping and dining opportunities as well as a vibrant nightlife. Lake Belton, a 12,000 acre lake(used in the background picture above), and the 6429 acre Stillhouse Hollow Lake, offering fantastic fishing and water sports opportunities. Belton has 13 parks including Heritage Park, home of Belton Youth Baseball and FC Belton Soccer, and Miller Springs Nature Center, a beautiful 260 acre nature preserve located behind the Lake Belton dam.
Belton is also a convenient location for troops stationed at Ft. Hood who want to put a little distance between home and work. 8% of students in Belton ISD are classified as military connected, the vast majority being children of Ft. Hood soldiers. Depending on location and gate, Belton is anywhere from a twenty to forty minute commute to Ft. Hood.
